I. Company Overview
Herbap Matrix Limited is headquartered in Hong Kong and is a technology-focused company specialising in scar care and skin repair. Building on scientific research from the School of Chinese Medicine at Hong Kong Baptist University, the Company converts plant-derived small molecules into scalable skincare and scar-repair products. It markets under the Herbap brand in Hong Kong, Macao and international markets, and under the Herbap Matrix Plus sub-brand in Mainland China, progressively building a cross-border product and compliance system.
The Company's flagship product, Herbap Scar Repair Gel, originates from phytonutrient scar-care technology developed by the research team of Dr Tsang Siu Wai, former Research Assistant Professor at the School of Chinese Medicine, Hong Kong Baptist University. Unlike conventional silicone occlusion-and-moisturisation approaches, the technology is based on flavanol glycoside small molecules extracted from ferns. It modulates activated myofibroblasts in the wound area, reduces excessive extracellular matrix deposition, and is combined with an antimicrobial formulation to help prevent and improve hypertrophic scars and keloids at source. The related invention has been patented in China, Hong Kong and the United States.

III. Development History
2022
(1) International recognition of research
In 2022, the phytonutrient-based scar care fluid developed by the research team of Dr Tsang Siu Wai at Hong Kong Baptist University received a Silver Award at the 48th International Exhibition of Inventions of Geneva. The certificate records the invention title as Phytonutrient-based Remedial Fluid for the Management of Hypertrophic and Keloid Scars, dated 28 March 2022. Hong Kong Baptist University announced the award on 13 April 2022.
The exhibition was held in March of the same year, with an expert jury assessing about 800 entries from some 25 countries. The award-winning formula contains flavanol glycoside small molecules extracted from ferns, which can suppress activated myofibroblasts in the skin and improve the appearance of raised scars. Being plant-based, natural and non-irritating, it is suitable for people with silicone allergy. The invention has been patented in Hong Kong, China and the United States, laying a scientific foundation of credibility for subsequent commercialisation.
2023
(2) Commercialisation and market launch
In March 2023, Herbap Scar Repair Gel was officially launched in Hong Kong. The first listed size was 15 g, later joined by a 7 g size, marking the move of the research outcome from the laboratory into consumer and clinical use.
In November 2023, the Company took part in the Hong Kong SME Innovation Award 2023 and received the Silver Award in the Product Innovation category, reflecting industry recognition within the local SME innovation system.
2024
(3) Cosmetic regulatory compliance and professional awards
In September 2024, Herbap Scar Repair Gel completed registration under the cosmetic regulations of the U.S. Food and Drug Administration (FDA), establishing the basic conditions for marketing the product as a cosmetic in the United States.
In November 2024, the Company participated in the Health Partnership Awards 2024 and received the Outstanding Scar Repair Product award. Organised by ET Net, the award further consolidated the brand's positioning in the professional health-product market.
2025
(4) Mainland brand establishment and hospital introduction in Hong Kong
In February 2025, the Herbap Matrix Plus brand was successfully registered in China. Herbap Matrix Plus is the Mainland China sub-brand of Herbap Matrix Limited, completing legal protection at the trademark level.
In April 2025, Union Hospital in Hong Kong began using Herbap Scar Repair Gel, becoming the first hospital in Hong Kong to adopt the product. Union Hospital is a representative private hospital in Hong Kong; its adoption marked the product's move from retail channels into formal clinical settings.
First half of 2026
(5) Public-hospital breakthrough, Mainland device pathway and Macao launch
In March 2026, Herbap Matrix Plus completed the relevant Class II medical-device registration and filing in China. In the same month, Prince of Wales Hospital began using Herbap, becoming the first public hospital in Hong Kong to adopt the product. Prince of Wales Hospital is an acute regional hospital under the Hospital Authority and a teaching hospital of the Faculty of Medicine, The Chinese University of Hong Kong.
In May 2026, Herbap received official import approval from the Health Bureau of Macao. In June 2026, Macau Yin Kui Hospital began using Herbap Scar Repair Gel, becoming the first hospital in Macao to adopt the product.

Latter half of 2026
In August 2026, the Company launched Herbap Acne Mark Cream for the youth market. The new product builds on existing phytonutrient and cell-directed technology, extending the application from post-surgical and post-traumatic scar care to everyday care of acne marks and blemishes.

Taken together, within four years the Company completed a full loop from international invention recognition, to local commercialisation, cosmetic regulatory compliance, professional-award endorsement, Mainland brand establishment, Class II medical-device registration and filing, introduction into private and public hospitals, Macao market access, and product extension for the youth market.

In the next stage, the Company should focus on three priorities: first, converting the use experience at Union Hospital, Prince of Wales Hospital and Macau Yin Kui Hospital into replicable clinical pathways and training materials; second, advancing the Mainland Class II medical-device system under Herbap Matrix Plus, while strictly distinguishing language used for the Mainland device pathway from that used for U.S. FDA cosmetic registration; and third, opening the youth consumer segment with Acne Mark Cream to form a dual-product combination of post-procedure repair plus everyday mark care.
Herbap Matrix Limited will continue to take Hong Kong research as its foundation, clinical need as its orientation, and cross-border compliance as its boundary, advancing phytonutrient technology to serve more users with post-surgical, post-traumatic and skin-repair needs.
